Less single-use, more reuse

Find one disposable habit you can replace — and check what your local recycling system accepts.

Plastic pollution needs systemic solutions as well as everyday choices. Reducing unnecessary products and reusing what you already own can be a practical starting point.

Choose one repeat habit

Look at an item you use often, such as a shopping bag or takeaway container. Reuse an option you already have where it can genuinely replace single-use items.

Reduce before recycling

Avoid unnecessary packaging when practical. Recycling does not make every disposable product harmless, and local systems accept different materials.

Follow local rules

Check your collection service’s accepted-material list. Sort accepted plastics correctly and dispose of other waste responsibly rather than guessing that it belongs in recycling.
